Know Your Domain, Is it .com or .org

You must have typed google.com many times on your browser wherever in the world and guess what you got , a web page written google there, but wait just see the url you typed in your browser. In India the moment you hit enter button browser will open  www.google.co.in not .com,  any ways just edit .co.in with google.co.kr ( for korean view of google ) ! This article is to give you some insight of .com, .edu, .gov and .org domain of website.

• .com : Established in 1985, although .com domains were originally intended to designate commercial entities, initially the .com domain was intended for commercial use only but now they are open publicly and are widely used for web mail, networking site etc like Yahoo . Many Countries have country code top-level domain i.e .co.in (India ) , .co.kr (Korea) ,.com.pk(pakistan) etc. For more detail visit Wiki .COM

• .org :  Commonly referred as organizational level domain, mainly given to non- commercial organization, .org was also commonly recommended for use by individuals, although .name and .info are now alternatives. example is www.wikipedia.org .  A second level code is also used with these org extension like .org.uk ( United Kingdom ), for more detail visit Wiki .ORG

• .edu : Used mainly by educational institutions eg., like cmu.edu, ucla.edu etc , however other than US  other country use this .edu with their country code like http://www.puchd.ac.in . Still to get an .edu domain is tough to apply for it institute need to show their accreditation to the authorities concerned, for more visit Wiki .EDU

• .gov : Restricted for government use only by the United States, was introduced in the year 1985. This domain is maintained by General Service Administration ( GSA ) an independent agency of US Federal. Use of the .gov domain is restricted to government entities,  State Governmental  entities and programs; cities and townships represented by an elected body of officials . eg http://www.indianrail.gov.in, for more detail visit : Wiki .GOV

Obviously what we wrote on our browser was just a string to us, knowing no significance of it, hope with this little information and links it will be able to make some inroads in your  web thoughts.
